KJ Entertainment is an independent, international film and television production company based in Munich, with offices in Hamburg and New York. The company is led by producer Kathrin Lohmann, who also serves as CEO of FMI Film Manufacturers Germany alongside her longtime Production partner Katharina Otto-Bernstein, founder of FMI New York.
KJ Entertainment develops, produces and invests in high-end films, series, and documentaries, collaborating with outstanding filmmakers in German and the international market. The company tells stories that matter — from bold fiction and thought-provoking documentaries to elevated genre storytelling and high-concept horror. KJ Entertainment stands for distinctive, emotionally engaging, and relevant entertainment, often inspired by extraordinary true events or acclaimed books.
KJ Entertainment and FMI have been behind numerous award-winning international productions. Recent successes include Joyland (dir. Saim Sadiq – Jury Prize & Queer Palm, Cannes 2022; Independent Spirit Award, Best International Film; Pakistan’s Academy Award submission) and A Sad and Beautiful World by Cyril Aris (Audience Award, Venice Film Festival 2025). Additionally, the documentary The Last Spy celebrated its world premiere at Filmfest München and is currently on a worldwide festival tour.
Other prestigious credits include the Emmy®-nominated HBO documentaries Mapplethorpe: Look at the Pictures and The Price of Everything, as well as Absolute Wilson (Silver Hugo, Chicago IFF). Domestic successes include the Amazon Prime miniseries Für Umme / For Peanuts (Best Miniseries, Los Angeles Independent Film Awards) and the feature Meeresleuchten for ARD, starring Sibel Kekilli and Kostja Ullmann.
Currently, KJ Entertainment is co-producing Daniel Brühl’s upcoming feature Break in collaboration with Amusement Park and The Ink Factory (UK).
